Portugal 2010 – World Philatelic Exhibition

In 2010, the Portuguese Post Office and the Portuguese Philatelic Federation will renew their century-old association by inviting all philatelists and stamp collectors, stamp dealers and everyone generally interested in philately throughout the world, to set aside a few days at the beginning of October to visit Portugal and contribute to the success of Portugal 2010 – World Philatelic Exhibition.
The event is being held under the patronage of the International Philatelic Federation, which has decided to hold its Congress to coincide with Portugal 2010.

The official logotype for Portugal 2010 is a stamp in CTT red (also the red of the Portuguese flag), with the word Portugal applied in white. Over this, in lettering similar to that used on post office ink stamps, is the year in which the Republic was proclaimed in Portugal -1910. To the side is the exhibition name in Portuguese and English.

Competition
This World Exhibition, held under the patronage of the International Philatelic Federation (FIP) and the European Philatelic Federation (FEPA), will be governed by very specific regulations as regarding exhibitor participation.
Portugal 2010 will host various competitive classes, including FIP Championship Class, Traditional Philately, Thematic Philately, Maximaphily and Youth Philately, among others. Exhibitors will be allocated a given number of frames in which to display their collections, which will be decided by the Organising Committee depending on the number of exhibitors in each competitive class.
We will also be awarding prizes to outstanding exhibits in each class, including the National and International Grand Prix d’Honneur, UPU and Youth Prizes, and the Gold, Vermeil, Silver, Silver Bronze and Bronze Medals.

Youth Programs
Attracting young people to the grounds of Portugal 2010 – World Philatelic Exhibition is a major objective of the Organizing Committee.
In the Exhibition Hall, a special space will be dedicated to the Youth Programs, where several computers will be available with philatelic oriented games and attractive information about stamps from all over the world.
Experts from the Portuguese Philatelic Federation will be there everyday, teaching the children how to start their own collections.
There will be numerous activities dedicated to the young participants. For example, qualified teachers will be asked to lead a session based upon several postal stamps.
The Portuguese Post Office has also in mind to invite well-known stamp artists to lead designing workshops for young people. One of these workshops, always a success whenever it has been applied, consists in presenting a graphic story of the stamp, involving the children, about what happens since the Philatelic Department asks for the design of a issue until the first draft is delivered by the artist.
Many invitations will be sent to public and private schools of Portugal to attend these workshops.
A detailed program, with the dates of the events, will be published here in the site more close to the opening of Portugal 2010.
